July Update
Hello everyone! It's July, can you believe it? I know its super cliche to say that but I swear that every time I blink a new week is starting and time is starting to feel like sand between my fingers.
To be honest I have been struggling. I don't want to come on here and unload on y'all but I have been spending most of this year going through some seriously big personal development and growth that will ultimately be for the good, but breaking the chains of ancestral trauma and patterns isn't an easy task and has been my full time job the last couple of months. It feels like really important work because I have made it my mission in life to end the cycles of abuse that have plagued my family and it's forced me to look at a lot of ugly truths of my ancestors but I feel so powerful because of it. So hopefully we are coming out of the cave and into the sunshine, just in time for Leo season!
I have been struggling to really feel inspired in my studio and I have just been allowing it to be okay rather than fighting against it. So jewelry and art making has been rather slow over here, but I have been able to make a small handful of pieces that will be hitting the shop today (July 9th). It's just a small collection of one of a kind and a small handful of limited edition pieces that are really special.
Its been a rough year for everyone I know. So if you are reading this, know you aren't alone. Hopefully a lot of what has come up is forcing us to really look at ourselves and question what we have believed as the status quo for so long. I know I have. I know it's hard to see the silver lining amongst the political unrest, global pandemic, and social movements happening left and right. It is a necessary step however in getting us all to wake up from our day to day lives and really take a look at the world around us. Are you living in accordance with mother earth and what would be best for her? Because what's best for her is what's best for all of us. It's a question i've been wrestling with for some time now. Who would have ever thought that there would be not one but three ocean fires? seems like an oxymoron, but these are the realities that we are being faced with at the moment and it's really up to us to change the system that created these literal ocean fires to make the earth a place that has a chance for our future generations to live on.
I certainly don't have the answers but I do know we need to decolonize our minds as a western collective and question these institutions that are working against us and keeping us separate from each other. We are truly all in this together, and we get nowhere when we are fighting about what wrinkly old man wears the crown this year. The world isn't going to change with policy, we have seen that time and time again. It really does depend on us tearing the crown off of these geezers and gathering within our communities to create the kind of world we want to see.
Anyway, I guess this week is more of a rant but It feels more imperative than ever to give a shit about this stuff. It's the future of our lives on this planet. The earth will survive without us, but if we continue to align ourselves with these institutions and businesses that are making the earth somewhere we wont be able to live then we are basically killing ourselves. I don't have answers, but I do know that if you are white in America, it's time to decolonize our lives. Look at the ugly truth of our ancestors, pay reparations where we can, and shut the hell up for a while and let marginalized communities have a seat at the table. It's more clear than ever that the western world has really created a monster that we can't tame and it's up to us to unlearn this toxic way of life and be in more harmony with the earth.
